Want to Win the MILLION WORD READERS AWARD?

Want to Win the MILLION WORD READERS AWARD?
Posted on 01/23/2018

52 students did it last year. Can YOU???

To promote reading at New Horizons, we recognize students who read ONE MILLION WORDS or the grade-level equivalent: kindergartners must read 10,000 words, 1st graders must read 80,000 words, and 2nd graders must read 500,000 words to attain the award. 3rd through 5th graders must read one million words to qualify.

Words are counted when a student passes a Reading Counts quiz on a book. Students have from the beginning of school (or earlier if they came to school over the summer when the library was open) until May 5 to get their words in....we need to order trophies so we can't wait until the last minute. :-)

Winners receive recognition in the newspaper and at a school ice cream social, and they also win a trophy and gift card to buy books!

See Ms. Robbins in the Media Center if you have questions about Reading Counts.
